got clues??

kylie wanted to be nancy drew for halloween. but... she now has a softball tournament scheduled and it interferes with trick or treating and basically dressing up. i decided to take her for portraits of such a great idea. the photographer was so excited to take these. my mom found an orginal nancy drew book which made the nostalgia of these pics come to life. they turned out super cute...

why???

i swear i am still here. october is so packed for some reason; it is only day 10. is it the christmas rush starting? i have completed several halloween crafts that i need to post. halloween is not even over and i am already thinking about my christmas crafts. what is up with that??!!

this week... i have been inspired to bake more, decorate more and just be more crafty. i have stalked several blogs... if they can do it, so can i. did you know i have another blog....

www.cakesbyauntiem.blogspot.com please check it out!!

....-....-....-....-....-....-....

i need to vent. so kylie plays tournament softball. there is a tournament every weekend from mid september thru november. we are only scheduled for 2 so far this fall season. that is not my beef. my beef is that one of those fabulous fall weekends is no other than halloween. yep, she plays on friday night, the big day for every kid. so not only has this coach stolen a fun night from my kid who loves to be creative and dress up, HE STOLE SCRAPBOOK PAGES FROM ME .........ahhhhhhhhhh. how dare he. this better be one fantastically decorated ball park for this scrap chic. UGH, he has NO idea who he is messing with..... -pm

waxing dilemma

ok i must share what happened to me and kylie last night. she got ready for bed and i noticed her eyebrows needed some immediate assistance. she agreed. (background: i have been waxing her eyebrows for a couple months now) i heated the wax, like normal and did one side, beautiful. so now for the other side. as i dip the stick she says, oh let me get my hair out of the way, as she sweeps her hair i am coming towards her with the wax and oops, it drips on her. well just not on her, JUST HER EYELASHES. now her eye is totally shut, the wax has adhered to both her upper and lower and oh did i mention that this covers half the width of her eye. has anyone noticed her blessed eyelashes, she has a ton of them. ok, instead of panicing, i ask scott to get us a towel to wet it to hopefully loosen the cooled wax. nope. i go and get my eyelash comb to maybe pull it out, painful for her and not really working. she was like, can we call someone. this WILL NOT defeat me in any way, i will win. we are going at it for a while and then i thought about what "Kim" would do in this situation (the asian lady that does mine) oh, she puts baby oil on afterwards and i bet this will help. so i have some eye makeup remover pads and we were literally soaking her eye with oil. this was loosening the wax slowly but surely. after at least 30 minutes of this trama, my daughter can open her eyes and now go to sleep. UGH, what a mess. so advice: if you find yourself dropping hair wax on someone's eyelashes, think like Kim and get the baby oil STAT.

Michael's... breaking news....

ok, i know that i complain ALOT about how this company took away our specialty store Recollections. this was the "go to store" for the special papers, albums and ideas. ok, michaels has some what redeemed themselves with me. i was browsing thru the north east area the other day and found myself noticing the new sign at the michaels location. i thought i should check this out. this store is a touch better than mine on cooper. it was very sunny out and you know when you are walking into a store and there is so much glare you feel somewhat lost? ok, i saw some sparkle to the right, they have a monstrous bead section. good for them, not for me. i hate beadwork, too tedious. so i look straight in front of me to see that there is no tall aisles in the middle and there is something hanging from the ceiling, like a large sign. OMG, they have gutted this store and put in wood floors just in the center of the store, and what is on these nice new wood floors in the center of the michaels store you ask??? yep, scrapbook aisles just like recollections would have. now, the stock is not old school michaels at all, it is some of the old and lots of the new. like good brands such as making memories, tim holtz, autumn leaves and MANY more. whew... i was in scrapbook heaven. the spots are not all full but they soon will be. the grand re-opening of this store is scheduled for october 5th. even the dollar section is awesome. they are set up alot like joann's check out area and designed like recollections in the scrapbook area, the bead area is cute for those who enjoy this craft, the framing section is nice also. the craft area is well stocked and easy to navigate based on age/level. i am impressed to say the least. no sales of course, remember recollections you were accustomed to paying $0.79 and up for paper, they too are proud of their stuff. i thought i would never say this about michaels but they have good cardstock also. now the one thing that will make me angry is if they do not do this to my store and include the space next to them formally known as recollections. i deserve this store as to those at the hurst/fort worth area (brenda and tara) for now i will just make that trip on over. remember oct 5th, mark the calendars and make it an early trip!! -pm

whew... let the parties begin

(saga with that, 45 minutes before the party went under way I am loading the cupcakes to the dessert tower and whoops there goes my entire glass of water on it, needless to say a new one was made very quickly!!) everyone seemed to have a really good time and it helps that we had ALOT to eat, including kylie's own new potatoes from her garden with papa harse. yummy :) we were being swarmed by BOYS..... we need some girls to even this out!! kylie was given so many great clothes and had several gift cards for her favorite clothing store JUSTICE. she picked out some really great outfits that all mix and match very well. OK, tonight is the much anticipated slumber party... gotta get back to work :) -pm

somebody's shootin' at somebody...

i have to share a very LOL story of my fearless gun toting husband (God bless this man!) so yesterday afternoon, Scott is standing in the kitchen, I am coming into the house from the garage holding a mound of items, Kylie is at the kitchen table drawing or something. apparently there is a noise none of which could POSSIBLY be made by me knocking into the door with my armful of items or Kylie flicking papers. NO, gun shots for sure. (his exact words contain non-pretty words, so i will make this PG rated) "what the *bleep* was that?? who the *bleep* is shooting?? OK, do not ask me and do not stand there mister fearless leader of the household. his eyes are HUGE at this point and i have to say i am giggling and he is serious. i assure him this was one of us making a noise. OH NO, somebody's shooting. ??????????? ok, get out of here and figure this out--- i am not going out there. (whatever dude) he finally goes out side and apparently he is right... the junk man across the street heard the same thing, similar to a shotgun sound and they both walked out at the same time. PLEASSSSSSSSSE people... it apparently was close but maybe a street over, i laughed about this all evening and he sorta laughed but assured what he heard was for real, still makes me laugh because his face was priceless. SO last night as we are going to bed, he must flip through all of the channels just in case there is something good on and here you go a western, with young michael landon and his exact words were "somebody's shootin' at somebody" OH i have to blog this and he just laughed!! There has been many nights of strange sounds in our house over the years and he has popped out of bed with his whitey tideys on packing heat running through the house, i have never been fortunate to actually see the face that goes with this until yesterday in my kitchen, LOL! his gun lay beside him for the rest of the day, as if we are under attack, too funny!! --pm

my macie jo turns 6.....

ok, my little macie jo is turning 6!! (well already did) her mom asked me to make her cake to match her theme, cheer leading. her invites are super cute with a megaphone on them. i spoke with my macie jo and asked what she would like, she responds that she wants the same colors used for the cake as the invitations, purple (hydrangea) and green (clover green) OK! oh, and she LOVES chocolate cake. Done! I also decided for those who want a white piece, that i would make pom pom cupcakes as well. to prevent them looking like a tuff of grass, i variegated the icing. a little on the mardi gras side but that is ok. also, this was my FIRST attempt at pom poms, so NO judging....i also glittered everything! please go to amy's blog (the title will take you there) and see her 6 years of pictures and her awesome invite! -pm

glue dots... in a dispenser.. oh my!

DOT N GO by Glue Dots

i have eyed this product in magazines and finally saw it in real life, so i had to buy even though it was not on sale at HL. i like it. i purchased the mini dots and they are actually smaller than the other mini's. also, i like it because i do not have to mess with the wax paper and the unraveling. the dispenser has a dial on the side so you can easily scroll to the next available glue dot. not too shabby! lol, it was $4.99 at HL.

on a "side" note, sorry to have to look at this "side"ways... i have it saved as a landscape pic but blogger turns it around... ugh -pm

a little something i started this weekend...

so when i was first sent home to rest (due to mono) i had so many projects to start running through my mind. of course i wrote down somethings i felt like i could accomplish and still rest. i do not want to turn out like my mother and my mother's mother and so on. it has been a personal mission of mine to simply place all of our pictures, cd's and negatives in one central location and have them in chronological order (you know that i have to be strictly organized about this) i have to say i have been able to keep this up but the one thing i kind of put to the side and forgot on purpose was all of the portraits and the extra copies. i love my child, my family and so on, but enough is enough. what do you do when you are done with the frame? i did not really scrapbook these through the years, nor can i add them to the albums i have already completed. do not get me wrong, i love having pics in frames but when you have been married for 13 years and your child is 10, this would be my new wallpaper in the living room easy. i thought i would scrapbook them. i know, another dang project. what would life be like if you are not overwhelmed??!! here is the start of my album. first let's get one thing straight, you do not make fun of my hair, clothes and wedding dress, i will not make fun of yours in 13 years... LOL!! I posted the pics over in the albums under portraits albums. (also the title has the link) --pm

dots n details

So I just came across this new website (well new to me) it has everything for sale, there is a catch..... monthly or yearly membership fee. Do not frown just yet until you check out the selection and just make a mock cart and compare the savings vs. the membership fee. You never know, this could be your fav online store..... -pm

back to the old habits...

I have to confess....I just went to HL this evening and ravaged their paper section, well mainly cardstock. The paper is on sale this week and I have made so many layouts this year, all of the "good" colors are depleated. I am still just a tad disappointed in the patterned paper stock, I only got a couple, no really just a couple or well........ok 12. I also went down a few aisles to the crafting section and got some glitter glue, those too were on sale.I also bought some other items... I need to use them and then I will post my thoughts and some pics!! good night! --pm

oh Renee.... you are too too funny!!

I have a little 7 yr old friend, her name given by mom and dad is Rylee Monk. She has a unique knack of calling or referring to someone as a different name, something other than what was given to them! Just one example.... Last summer, we were at Amy's house for a page layout class and she was referring to Macie as "Ashley". Doesn't rhyme, sound like or even start with the same letter. This is just funny. I could not resist, I had to take part in this... I told her that she too should have an alternate name, just teasing her really. Well she put her hands up and pretty much said "bring it". SO I just blurted out "Renee", she laughed and said we'll I will call you..... "Bag". Oh gees, good one I tease, I am holding a bag, you are MORE creative than this little one! About a week or so later, Renee (Rylee) and her dad Shannon come up to Mexican Inn to have lunch with Lesa and I. She is setting across from me, just starring. She is a little sunk in her chair and still is just glaring over at me! All of a sudden girl busts out with "strawberry" excuse me??? asks her mom and dad. That's her name, Strawberry. There was nothing around me that could have possibly related to such a thing, I LOVED IT. We laughed so much about this. Now, do not think you can call her Renee or do not dare call me Strawberry... this is our names for each other, like a sisterhood or something. She gets a tad defensive if someone refers to me as my Rylee given name! Oh, for Christmas, she gives me an adorable strawberry teapot which stays here in my scrapbook room. I bought us matching initial necklaces with rhinestones of course. Lucky for her, both of her names start with the same letter! Renee, if you are reading this... smooches :)

Oh this layout is dedicated to my glitter queens, Traci Thatcher and Renee's mom, Lesa Monk........ you may not be able to see all of the stickles, but it is EVERYWHERE! Also, like my cruddin'??!! hahaha

BOO... Treehouse Memories Page Kit

OK, it has been a while but I have a page kit from Treehouse Memories that I am finally using. It has never been opened before now. It is a Christmas themed kit titled "Just Believe. I intended on putting this together almost according to the directions, just a few minor adjustments. I was also excited because it has Sweetwater brand paper included. This was one of the brands I scoped out at the Las Vegas Convention (while I was at the store). Cute stuff. As I am tearing and cutting I noticed something peculiar... only one sheet is an original, the other two pieces are fraud, photocopies. WHAT??? This is scrapbook robbery... how dare you photocopy papers and pass them off as originals?? I am a "brand" inquisitive person, I flip over to see who is making extraordinarily cute paper... UGH to say the least I was disappointed in this company, making money off of photocopies to save a buck. I still made the page, of course better than their example page :) So basically take this as a warning, not just from Treehouse Memories page kits (not sure if they are still in production) but all; look at the labels and make sure that you do not have a phony page kit...

I included the link to Sweetwater so you can check out their cute papers; they are a small company. Also, you cannot detect which is a phony paper, but I know which ones are. --pm

"NO!.... DON"T LEAVE"

ok, on this retreat you learn people's vices. we all have them. if you screw with this vice, someone could get hurt..... let's go back to last weekend at the scrapbook retreat. we are all together in a small town at miss lillie's. not much around, just a brookshires, mcdonalds and a sonic. so you know that we are out there when these are the 3 main stores in town. anyway.... lesa, donna and i adventure to find the nearest wal-mart........ 30 miles away and then hit up the scrapbook store as well. donna is cravin' some ice tea WITH LEMON, NOT LEMONADE... obviously a vice of hers and she was shafted on a good drink the day before and the sonic idiot put lemonade in her tea when she specifically asked for extra lemons. NOT THE SAME THING!! well this got onher last nerve and today, she is going to make sure it is correct. we pull up, they order.... sweet tea, tots and an UNSWEET TEA WITH EXTRA LEMONS (she repeats this at least 3 times) also PLEASE DO NOT PUT LEMONADE IN MY DRINK LIKE YESTERDAY.... yes ma'am the sonic girl answers.... we wait and we wait, seriously for like 15 minutes, no lie. there is no one in this town and they are not at the sonic today. so donna buzzes again... "thank you for choosing sonic (blah blah blah) donna says... we are still waiting on our order to come out... oh well ma'am we had to make SWEET TEA (gees lesa) and it will be out shortly... after harassing lesa about her drink of choice taking forever and that donna will have a tainted tea yet again, the sonic girl finally comes out with the order... she spouts off what the order is and we disburse the items... donna turns around with the money still in hand and shouts... "NO ... DON'T LEAVE... I NEED TO CHECK MY TEA"... the girl waits patiently as i laugh hysterically i can hardly breathe and i am crying looking the other way, lesa in the back and is almost on the floor of the car laughing and slightly embarrassed... donna is laughing so hard she cannot even try her tea, telling us to hush...... the sonic girl speaks up and says that she cannot even try the drink due to the laughing and she has this uncomfortable giggle herself (at this point i feel like a 15 year old pulling a prank). shut up girlie, you do not know the inside joke here!! LOL! of course the tea is lacking lemon appeal and donna must ask for more... no trace of lemonade though, whew... the girl brings her back a cup of lemons, practically running to the car with them (in fear of donna i guess, LOL).... donna is a happy drinker now. moral of the story... do not mess with donna and do not mess with one's vice. we laughed about it for the rest of the night..... something this good is still funny even if you were not there, especially if you know my dear spunky friend donna, i wouldn't have her any other way !! -- pm

scrapbook convention

Tara, Rachel and I browsed the convention on Thursday morning. It was packed. I am so glad it is open a whole extra day. Tara had never been to one and enjoyed herself! I saw a lot of the same vendors, the ones you can count on always being there and some new ones. Wow, the page kits are still a big thing out there, and boy are they proud of themselves, some are just a TOUCH overpriced. UGH!! I am sure that there are plenty that stock up on that mess. Of course I pre-ordered the new Kayla cd, volume 8, she assured how fabulous it is and it is a large one at that (cannot wait for that to come in the mail... it will be like Christmas in July)!! LOL! Tara and I bought some paper we had not seen before, from quick quotes. It is double sided and nice and heavy. Great colors and patterns too! All of us bought the new page maps book, it is fantabulous!! I suggest this one, we scored it for only $15, what a steal!! Like always, stamping station will not let you down if you need a state, country or sport paper; i got some great softball and Washington D.C. papers. The other hot item (booth)... retreats. These retreat places are gorgeous and well... proud of themselves. They should be, the houses look great, the scrap rooms are loaded with supplies and lots of room. I will make a new "list" with all of the ones we saw. We also headed out to Malakoff for our retreat at Miss Lillie's. I also picked up some cards on some local (DFW) stores and eBay stores as well. I will add those to the fav stores list. As always, cannot wait until next year, you never know what you might miss out on if you do not go. --pm

Sex And The City Movie

Yes. It was amazing, real, emotional, edgy; just perfection. Just what I wanted and hoped it would be. People actually gave a standing ovation in the theater, rightly deserved. I have chatted with other SATC fans and they felt the same way.
Since I was on house arrest I decided to re-watch the ENTIRE series. I accomplished this task without any bumps in the road! Going back and watching all of them made me think more about friendships and relationships. You can at least relate to what the conflict is in each episode. I love it. We all have a little of each woman in us. I am more of a Charloette than the others. We do not have to be single New York women to understand, just a woman. I hope that you give this movie a chance even if you have not seen the series. --pm
p.s. I already bought the soundtrack!!

no... you go on ahead with what you were doing...

Where do I start with this?? This is a for sure "gripe" on one of my top fav stores. UGH... so last night Amy calls and she must go to MICHAELS for a few items and asks for me to join her and Collin (which is sleeping and sick). So she picks me up (by the way it is Collin's 1st birthday, yeah!) OK anyway, we get there. we pa ruse the scrapbooking aisles in pure disgust, why did Recollections close?? we ask each other.. the section is a dump. so weis done with looking, she has her must haves from her list and we shimmy on down to the check out line. Come on... it is a Wednesday night, who is really at MICHAELS?? Everyone apparently and ONE person working the register or should I say attempting to work the register, where is my Ms. Faye when we need her?? So Collin is laid up in the stroller just a snoozing and we strike up conversation with the lady behind us, we are chit chatting and then notice the line is not moving and the register girl is having a challenging time, where is the rest of the register people... did they run away, go to Old Navy for the sale??? So we begin to gripe about poor customer service at local stores, exchanging stories and this one is about to be entered on the infamous list. We now know so much about this lady, her son is engaged, blah blah... yadda yadda. I am not big on the conversation with strangers in line, for the record she started it. Ok now we are just one away from being checked out... WHOOHOO, oh did I mention Amy has like 5 things. The register girl is having yet another problem, OMG! We look back the the line has forked, there are people everywhere, I would say at least 20 customers. OK, so register girl calls for help, not back-up, where do these people come from?? So this register assistant comes up and does nothing really and actually offers to help the next in line, YES!! We stroll on over and so does the lady behind us; our new BFF. To start things off, register help abandons us for register girl AGAIN. Seriously lady over here... now the customer that was like 3 back in line is paying, ahhhhhhhhh (I want to scream) so the register help lady comes back only to call some other person to assist register girl, as help lady comes towards the front of the store, the register girl finally gets it and so register help lady shews her off and says "no... you go on ahead with what you were doing" WHAT??? asked all 20 of us? Everyone is in a shear uproar by now. Obviously she is of importance and can she not sniff out the importance of helping the customers in the store?? Whatever. So anyway Amy is about to be checked out only for the register help to drop, yes i said drop this kids lap desk onCollin and all of her other stuff, wooden frames and scrapbook paper, went crashing down. OMG, I check on Collin, Amy bends over to get her things and what does register help do?? NOTHING, you were right. OMG again! Someone in line asks if it hurt the baby or woke him up.. you know they cared. Register help was hardly remorseful. UGH. We finally leave, I am not too sure when we will be back... it would have to be a really really good sale and they actually have it in stock. UGH... I am so worn out by this experience. -pm :(

the best white pen EVER....

ok I just discovered the best white pen ever at scrapbook barn. i asked the girl working there if it "really" worked. she assured me that this is NOT a gimmick and it is truly her fav, she owns more than one. OK i say, add it to the basket. for $3.75 a pop, 2 toll booths and 30 miles away from home this little sucker better work!! forizzle! c'mon we have all been told that "this one is the best" and was a sucker and bought it, and the greatest pen ever only works like twice, just like super glue.for real though, this is my new favorite, even more than my precious souffle white pen. it is a gotta have girls! -pm

HOPE

I was invited to a "pink party" back in November. This is a party for just girls!! The idea is that you wear pink. Cute! This year was to honor and help raise money for my friend Brenda's mom, Sandra Mora. Sandra is a breast cancer survivor and is an inspiration of hope and strength.

There was a huge spread of girly food and great selection of spirits, why wouldn't this be fun!? This event was hosted in the beautiful home of Laura Heyman, long time friend of Brenda.

I made a scrapbook page and wanted to show it off! I went almost total pepto bismol pink everywhere!! This was a great way to utilize the thousands of pink scraps that I just cannot seem to let go! -pm

obsessive? maybe...

So many of you know that I have been sick, on house arrest basically with a teenager disease. Yep you guessed right, Mono. I am not the type to stay home willingly... ALL of the time! Well with many thoughts running through my mind all day I have vowed to resolve some issues with my scrapbooks. I am notorious for leaving pages "un-done" or without journaling... I will just come back to it. Famous last words right?! I went through all of my books (there are about 25) and filled in where needed, got the picture from someone, made filler pages, etc. I went a HUGE step further. What do you do in case of a major disaster? Leave your books behind? I think NOT. As manly and strong as my husband may be, he cannot carry all of the books in one swoop. Nor will he justify my hard work as much as I do in case of an emergency. SO... yes I went over the edge. I took a picture of each scrapbook page. I organized it from start to finish of the album and named it accordingly. What if there is a computer disaster?! I uploaded the pictures of each of my books to Costco, for safe keeping. Let's not stop there, Costco could have problems too. I am also going to burn them to cd's and place in our (cross your fingers) a fire/waterproof safe. Now this is preserving your memories. Is this obsessive or just a good idea?

Also, I am often asked for examples/help and I start off by saying, there was this one layout...now all I have to do is share via email or Costco! Now, I am just doing a good deed for a friend in need. This is also a great way to "share" with family/friends that do not live near and want to see your great scrapbook accomplishments, oh I mean your family pictures!! :) -pm

I am here!!

It is official, I am a blogger. It seems that everyone is doing this, I gotta keep up! With this blog I plan to post new layouts or projects I have either done recently or bring out an oldie but goodie. I have friends ask all the time for a picture of something I have done, I also ask for the same. We have to stick together, the industry changes way too often. I have several great links provided here for ideas and some of my friends; I hope to keep adding more! I will also post a "Tell me what you think" section for ideas and encouragment for challenges I face with sparking my creativity. -pm
